Course overview
Embark on a transformative journey with our wānanga-style programme. Designed to enhance your leadership knowledge, awareness and skills, this course offers increased leadership self-awareness, collective accountability and radical transformative action.
Here’s what you can expect:
- In-person wānanga delivered over two full days
- Six Whare (Houses of Learning): Focus on distinct development areas to enrich your leadership.
What You’ll Gain:

- Personal Leadership Plan: Craft, define, and refine with expert guidance.
- Real-Time Support: in the moment guidance and support to stay on track and/or overcome challenges.

- Communication Skills: Build stronger connections and collaborations.
- Roadmap and Goals: Develop a clear leadership action plan with community accountability.
Celebrating your Journey: In the final session, you’ll share the leadership plan you have crafted. It is a moment to celebrate your growth, accomplishments and transformation turning your leadership potential into a reality!

4. Whare Waha: Empowering Confident Communication in Leadership.
5. Whare Hinengaro: Mastering Our Mindset.
6. Whare Tangata: Embracing the Enduring Power of Mana Wāhine.
Final session: Toka Tū Hine Matarau: My Leadership Stand (Presentation) and Celebration.
Further Information
Delivery mode and Format
- In Person: Over Two full days; or
- Online Zoom Sessions: Meet for two hours every fortnight, and will include mentoring sessions.
- The course is limited to twenty wāhine.
- It is an interactive course where participants are expected to actively engage with the group.
Workload
Online
- Six 2-hourly workshops delivered over 12 weeks
- self directed learning throughout the course
- After class preparation on leadership plan
In-person wānanga:
- two full days contact time.
- Up to 2-hours self-directed workbook prep and reflection time.
- After class preparation on your leadership plan.
- Short oral presentation on day two.
Assessment
- Formal Leadership Presentation – Presenting your Hine Matarau Leadership Plan in the last session.
- Active participation and engagement through the wānanga.
