Course overview
This course looks at various aspects of leadership from the participant’s own experience. It adds theoretical perspectives on leadership styles and approaches, change and the importance of context. The course enables participants to develop their own unique leadership profile.
Available either face-to-face or fully online, this course is designed for working professionals, and will be appropriate for anyone in the public sector— your workplace experience is an asset, not a barrier. Credits earned count towards a postgraduate qualification at Victoria University of Wellington.
What you'll learn
- Identify and apply models of leadership in the public sector;
- Recognise and critically analyse the elements of organisational culture;
- Demonstrate how to apply integrative leadership across public, private, community and voluntary sectors;
- Apply different models of organisational change in the public sector.

Format
Block taught over 18 weeks from the 8th of July until the 8th of November. The course is Face to Face at Rutherford House, or fully online via Zoom. There are 4 seminars (approximately 3 hours each.)
Assessment
This is a credit bearing course and does include assessment items. Assessment is designed to be at the right level for your learning, and aligned to your work practice. Assessment items for this course are:
- Profile in leadership (1000 words approx) – Mark: 25%
- Change leadership report (1000 words approx) – Mark: 25%
- Leadership framework and infographic (3000 words approx) – Mark: 40%
- Leadership self-reflection (750 words approx) – Mark: 10%
What you'll receive
By passing this course, you will receive 15 points that can be transferred into other Post-graduate programmes within the Te Herenga Waka | Victoria University of Wellington School of Business and Government.
You will also receive a digital badge that will allow you to share your learning with your professional networks, and enhance your CV.
This course is also equitable to 200 hours/points of CPD.
