Course overview

Do you want to enrich your teaching of algebra in Years 4 to 10? Do you want to increase ākonga motivation to learn mathematics? Do you want to broaden your strategies for teaching groups with diverse mathematics learning starting points? This online course highlights all of these.

This 8-week (fully online) micro-credential supports teachers working with students from Years 4 to 10 who want to learn powerful ways to motivate and promote algebra learning in mixed-ability classes and enhance their confidence to teach algebra effectively. Participants will explore, discuss, and design evidence-based ways of helping ākonga understand, use, and enjoy algebraic thinking, tools, and concepts.

We will be sharing engaging strategies that empower students to develop a conceptual understanding of algebra. Materials, representations, and real-life contexts will be used to illustrate how to promote confidence using algebraic concepts, tools, and strategies.

Videos of expert teachers sharing the ways they teach algebra curriculum content are included throughout.
