Jo is a clinician researcher, qualified Human Factors professional and mediator who currently advises international government agencies, healthcare institutions, researchers, and advocacy groups on restorative initiatives and health system safety.  Jo trained in restorative practices in 2013 and has applied the approach in response to workplace issues, injury and sudden death. Her notable work includes New Zealand’s response to surgical mesh harm, which she co-designed and evaluated in partnership with the Ministry of Health and consumer advocates. Jo has been researching health system safety for several years and is involved in international projects focused on mitigating compounded harm the relational contribution to system safety. Her PhD applied a realist lens to examine what works, for whom and in what contexts with regard to a restorative response to adverse events in Aotearoa NZ.  Jo is the co-chair for the National Collaborative for Restorative Initiatives in Health, an active member of the Resilient Healthcare Society, and an advisory board member to Harmed Patients Alliance.
