This course will be delivered from Term 1 2026. Please register your interest if you would like us to contact you when registrations open in Term 4 2025.

This 5-point micro-credential course is taught online over one school term. It includes self-paced modules, 4 x 1.5 hour webinars and some small assessment activities. 

This micro-credential course will focus on developing the leadership capability of middle leaders working in secondary schools across Aotearoa New Zealand.

The course has been designed with the four articles of Te Tiriti o Waitangi as a framework and each module is based on aspects of Te Tiriti. On completion of the micro-credential requirements you will be awarded a digital badge.

The course fee for this masters-level micro-credential will be $595 +gst.

Course modules

This micro-credential course is delivered as five modules over 9 weeks:

  1. Tangata Whenuatanga: Te ao Māori perspectives on leadership. 

  2. Pukengatanga: Characteristics and capabilities of effective leadership. 

  3. Rangatiratanga: Cultivating leadership in others – acknowledging a person’s chiefliness.

  4. Kōtahitanga: Contributing to a trusting and collaborative culture in your school and community.

  5. Maheretanga: Looking to the future.

Further Information

A variety of approaches will be used in the course delivery including reflective tasks, collaborative tasks, readings, and videos.

Workload: Approximately 30 hours of self-paced learning, 4 x live online webinars (4pm-5:30pm), plus time spent on assessments. 

Assessments: Assessment tasks include 3 assignments. All assessment items must be completed for a student to pass this micro-credential course.

Other requirements: Attendance at all webinars are required to receive the micro-credential.

This course has been developed to specifically focus on supporting teachers to build classroom and leadership capability. By successfully completing this course and any two of the below micro-credentials participants achievement can be recognised towards the Master of Secondary School Leadership (MSSL) and Master of Education (MEd) programmes at Victoria University of Wellington, opening up potential further learning and career pathway opportunities.
