Course overview

This 10-week online course is delivered across five sessions and has been carefully crafted to deal with the unique challenges of being a principal in Aotearoa New Zealand.

We’ll explore how the 10 Behaviours of Successful People™ framework can be used as a powerful tool for principals to think about their work and wellbeing in a new way.

By learning and applying the 10 Behaviours framework, busy principals can achieve success despite the seemingly competing demands of school leadership and personal success.

What you'll learn

Learn about the 10 Behaviours of successful people and identify what is truly important to you, for example: 

  • Prioritising and managing your time
  • Staying on task despite multiple distractions
  • Questioning unhelpful beliefs
  • Developing strategies to balance work and home responsibilities
  • Knowing what your strengths are and where the opportunities are for improvement
  • Developing a personalised action/coaching plan to build on your strengths and make changes for the better
  • Applying what you are learning to your school context leadership responsibilities
  • Connecting with other principals on a similar learning journey

Course modules

Session 1: Introducing the 10 Behaviours and what matters most

  • We’ll begin by discussing how the 10 Behaviours of Successful People framework is structured and how to use it to focus your attention in areas of high value and high impact.
  • Success and wellbeing start with you defining what success and being wellbeing means to you. 
  • How have your ideas evolved over the years, and what’s important now – both professionally and personally? 

Session 2: Coaching 1

This is a confidential 1:1 session with a coach.

Session 3: Getting Stuff Done

Learn how to think differently about time and get vastly improved outcomes resulting in less stress and a better life-work balance.

Session 4: Success is a Choice

Discover the critical choices you can make to determine your success and wellbeing (what to focus on, relationship management, how to use information, and what to think).

Session 5: Coaching 2

During this small group coaching session, you’ll share your experiences of implementing what you are learning in a safe environment with other course participants.

  • An invitation to be part of our quarterly Success Studio, which is a one-hour Zoom session, held on the first Friday of every quarter, where 10 Behaviours graduates get together to discuss relevant topics.  These sessions are led by Dr David Keane. 

In preparation for the course, participants will receive a resource pack containing the 10 Behaviours book from Dr Keane, a workbook, and an access code for downloading the 10 Behaviours App which includes course material and a kete of additional resources.  

The resource pack has all your learning materials, so that you can study them both before and after our learning sessions, enabling you to maximise your experience. 

This course is entirely online and made up of 3 x 1.5 hour webinars and two 1 hour coaching sessions with a qualified 10 Behaviours coach who has school leadership experience in Aotearoa. 

Both the masterclasses and coaching sessions are designed to be interactive and engaging, in a safe space where participants can share their challenges and learn from each other.  

Between learning sessions, participants will be required to complete some self-study including reading Dr Keane’s book, listening to audio from the App, watching videos, and writing a self-reflection.  
Over the 10 week course, there will be 20 hours of self-study, an average of 2 hours per week.
