Derek Gill

Derek has a passion for public management and public policy and has been applying economic and financial analysis to a range of practical policy problems for his entire working career.

Derek has extensively researched, taught and published on a range of public policy and management issues. 

He is an Adjunct Scholar with the School of Government at Victoria University of Wellington where he has undertaken a range of teaching roles.

Derek’s previous experience spans work in the public and private not-for-profit sectors and included roles; as a general manager in a service delivery organisation, with the OECD and central agencies in New Zealand, as well as a diplomat and policy advisor. Derek has extensive governance experience and is currently serving on the boards of four non-governmental organisations.

Derek has worked on a range of public policy and management issues including recent publications on International Regulatory Cooperation, Digital Government and the Social Investment approach.
